Involvement of the local population
During centuries, the mongolian nation has protected its environment following traditional and ancestral rules, with humans living in entire harmony with nature.
This strong relationship between humans and nature, in a country with an unique biodiversity and where humans highly depend from nature to survive, should continue. For this, the native population should be directly involved in biodiversity protection and natural resources management in its country, in order to become itself the principal actor of this biodiversity conservation.
Thus, the aim of our association is to involve in our project some families and persons that we will meet in our study area as additional monitors.
We will ask them to note on a notebook their own observations concerning: behavioural ecology of the Mongolian Wild Ass; nature of interactions between this sub-species and livestock, wildlife, and humans activities at water sources and the surroundings; mortality factors of the Khulan; wells and water points localisation; and some more information. We will give to each of them binoculars in order to make easy observation and collect of information. We will also give to them a notebook, some monitoring sheets to fill out, disposables cameras (to take in picture: Khulans impact on pastures, interactions between Khulans and other species, signs of poaching of Khulans, etc.).
To thank them for their participation, support and help, following the mongolian tradition based on mutual aid and exchange, we will give to each of them some equipement that they need, various food products, educational supports and games for kids, informative supports for adults, as well as various presents.
