Mongolian Buddhism, compassion & species and nature protection

During the mission we conducted in 2009, we started to cooperate with Buddhist monks of a small and old monastery we know since the summer 2008, with the objectives:

-to reinforce links between Mongolian Buddhism with the endangered Khulan, Gobi wildlife and nature protection,

-to raise environmental awareness of the local population on the Khulan, Gobi wildlife and biodiversity conservation following Buddhism principles,

-and to illuminate the interdependence between humans and nature,

to maintain on a long term the balance of the Gobi ecosystem and to reach a better harmony between nature, animals and humans.

During the autumn 2010, we also involved another monastery, very famous in Mongolian and abroad, Khamaryn Khiid.

Then, this project is supported by two Buddhist monasteries of the south-east Gobi: the famous Khamaryn Khiid (Energy center located near the town of Sainshand) and another monastery located in our study area we know since the summer 2008 and in which we regularly stay every year. Our association is the only one to collaborate with this last monastery, and our team is suported by this monastery’s community. One family, one man, and monks of this monastery are involved in our project since the summer 2008.

Various actions will be conducted as part of this approach:

 -creation of educational materials in partnership with our monks, other monks (Tibetan & Mongolian Buddhism that are very similar), and various specialists,

-implementation of various activities and actions with our monks-partners to protect the endangered Mongolian Khulan, the Gobi wildlife and the Gobi ecosystem,

-Buddhist Art & species and nature protection, that will be included in this approach as well as in another of our approach,

-training of the monks-partners in conservation Biology,  

-educational programm on Buddhism & Environment in schools-partners of our organization,

-and other activities that will be defined whithin the following weeks
