Mongolian art and culture in support to Mongolian wild ass and biodiversity conservation

- link local culture and art with biodiversity conservation -

This project is an initiative of the Association GOVIIN KHULAN (http://www.goviinkhulan.com) in partnership with the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery (www.art-gallery.mn) and the Tsagaandarium art museum and gallery (www.tsagaandarium.org) for the event that will be organized in Ulaanbaatar begin of 2012.

This project is part of our approach to reinforce links between Mongolian culture and traditions with species and nature protection.

Also, because Mongolian wild species are rarely illustrated in Mongolian Art, this project will also contribute to illuminate those wild species that are part of Mongolian natural and cultural heritage by using Mongolian art, music, songs, poetry, ...

-by using Art as a visual support and thanks to conferences that will be organized during each event, this project will help inform and grow public awareness on present environmental problems and biodiversity status in Mongolia and in the Gobi area, and the need to protect nature and its biodiversity. It will be also an opportunity for Mongolian artists to express their point of view on these topics;

-some of the artworks that will have been done for this project could be used to illustrate educational supports that the Association GOVIIN KHULAN will create for its project for Mongolian wild ass protection. We hope it will contribute to change the population appreciation for Mongolian wild ass and will increase the cultural and ethical value of Mongolian wild ass in Mongolia;

-it will also reinforce links between Mongolian culture, nature and species protection for a long term success.

A) We wish to organize this year an Art work competition for young Mongolian artists and exhibit in November 2011 art works of around 20 artists selected in two Art galleries of Ulaanbaatar: the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery and the Tsagaandarium art museum and gallery.

4 winners will be selected and we wish to give to each of them a specific gift and provide to the 1^st winner the opportunity to exhibit his artwork abroad. At the end of this event, artworks of the 4 winners selected will be sold during a Charity evening and gains obtained will be donated to the Association GOVIIN KHULAN for its project to protect Mongolian wild ass.

Mama Mia Catering and pizza delivery will be our partner for the opening ceremony and the charity evening.

Some of the artworks selected will be also used to illustrate educational supports and educational activities that will be created and conducted by the association GOVIIN KHULAN in the Gobi area and in Ulaanbaatar for Mongolian wild ass protection.

Some of the artists who will participate to this event could also get the opportunity to have an exhibition in other museums of Ulaanbaatar, even to have the opportunity – thanks to the association GOVIIN KHULAN – to promote and sell their artworks abroad.

B) On a second time we would like to extend this project to the area where the “Mongolian wild ass conservation project” is conducted by the association GOVIIN KHULAN: Ömnögobi aimag and Dornogobi aimag. This project will involve the local population living in our study area (kids and schools, people, technology teachers, Buddhist monks ...) and more Mongolian artists. This project will contribute to the community development project conducted by the Association GOVIIN KHULAN in these areas.

C) The Association GOVIIN KHULAN already started including Mongolian culture and traditions in its approach for Mongolian wild ass protection (e.g by reinforcing links between Mongolian Buddhism with Khulan, other wildlife and nature protetcion). We wish to organize much more activities and events including different aspects of the Mongolian Culture to reinforce links with Mongolian wild ass and nature protection.

We also would like to organize in the near future another event that will involve several organizations and projects acting for biodiversity conservation in Mongolia, where artworks will be created by Mongolian artists but also by international artists. This second event will be organized on the same basis than the first event.
