Support and cooperation with the rangers working in the south Gobi
.. Technical support
During my last stay in Mongolia, I saw that the majority of the rangers working in the south and south-east Gobi did not possess any binoculars or GPS. But their work consist in monitoring wildlife and biodiversity, as well as to controll illegal poaching for endangered wildlife. Thus, binoculars and GPS are vital for the rangers to permit them to work in optimal conditions.
GOVIIN KHULAN strongly wish to provide as much as possible to rangers working in the south and south-east Gobi with binoculars, GPS and digital camera, to permit them to work in good conditions and to properly monitor and look after wildlife. We will train rangers to wildlife monitoring as well as to use such equipment.
.. Long term cooperation
Because rangers are living in the Gobi all over the year and know this area since they are child, because they have very good knowledge of wildlife and biodiversity there, as well as on traditional ways of life, people’s difficulties and needs, so it is vital to strongly cooperate with them on a long term. Thanks to this cooperation with rangers knowledge about wildlife and nature of conflicts between humans and wildlife will increase. Thanks to this cooperation optimal conversation with local people as well as its information, education and involvement in biodiversity protection and natural resources management could be implemented. Conservation actions could be well monitored on a long term.
.. Cooperation with the rangers from Hantanbulag, Dornogovi aimag.
Our cooperation with rangers from the south Gobi already started during the summer 2008, with three rangers working in the Hatanbulag soum in the Dornogovi aimag, south-east Mongolia. These rangers are working in the Little Gobi B as well as outside this protected are in the all Hatanbulag soum area. One of these rangers, the ranger Ideree, got a first training to monitor Khulans and all wildlife. The ranger Ideree joined our team during around four days, during which he get involved a lot in our project and show us a high interest for Khulan conservation. His training will continue next summer (summer 2009). The ranger Ideree will be in charge to supervise Khulans monitoting in the Hatanbulag area in cooperation with the other rangers working in Hatanbulag. The two other rangers will be also trained to wildlife and Khulans monitoring. This project is supported by the Hatanbulag office with who a cooperation contrat will be signed.
We would like to provide them with binoculars and GPS to each of them in order to permit them to monitor Khulans all over the year on a optimal way, as Hatanbulag is in the core area of the most concentrated Khulan population.
Khulan Conservation Center in Hatanbulag
In cooperation with the Hatanbulag office and the ranger Terbish we would like to create the Khulan Conservation Center in Hatanbulag who is the core area of the Khulan in the Gobi.
We would like to provide this center with a computer, printer, access to the Internet and a radio. Copies of all reports and scientific publications about the Khulan conservation will be put in this center. A database will be created and located in this center, gathering together all results of research and monitoring on Khulan conducted in the all Gobi by rangers and scientific teams. In the future, all actions for the Khulan conservation will be managed from this center. Meetings and workshops gathering all specialists of Khulan will be organised in this center, as well as training sessions of rangers and information and education of local people.
